With COP26 kicking off next week in Glasgow, we are in a green mood (and as our Glasgow team members keep reminding us, Glasgow literally translates as the ‘dear green place’).
To match our mood, we wanted to share how Projecting is working to meet challenges that we all currently face.
Firstly, we have expanded our existing environmental policy (we have actually been running an internal project on this called ‘Project Glasgow’)
Business travel & the environment
As a consultancy most of our carbon footprint comes from travel. Where possible, we have always prioritised taking trains over aeroplanes, and having videoconferences over meetings in person. Well before the pandemic hit that was already how we conducted business. We recognise that it is impossible to have zero travel in our business. Given the countries we work in, it is also impractical to completely cut out flying.
So, since we can’t cut out emissions altogether, we will have to offset them. In fact, we will more than offset them.
Tracking our carbon emissions at a granular level means that, going forward, Projecting will offset double the carbon that we emit. In 2022 we will be a carbon-negative / climate-positive company.
Secondly, we participated in our first projects related to the environment. During 2021, our teams helped various clients, in Spain and the UK, run environmental projects.
We coordinated a bank’s activities in the run-up to and during COP26, project managed an investment manager’s application to become a signatory of the FRC’s Stewardship Code, supported a bank’s climate change readiness and net-zero plan and coordinated a bank’s implementation of a Sustainable Finance Categorisation System.
In 2022, we aim to make sustainability, and particularly the climate, even more central to what we do, and we will be encouraging and supporting our team members to do the same.
In the meantime, we encourage everyone to get involved in any of the multiple Green Zone and fringe COP events taking place in parallel to the conference, or in the multiple local initiatives taking place around the world.
